It would seem that our senior partner, Tim DiPiero, continues to refuse to retire from his long-standing athletic pursuits. While he loves to play and compete in golf and pickleball and an annual bocce tournament, playing basketball still remains his favorite sport. Inspired over the last 25 years by guys like Nemo Nearman, Keith Holmes, Pete White and Bob Johnson, among several other veteran ballers, Tim, at the “young” age of 74 has been a part of some winning championships of late.

Here at DiPiero Simmons McGinley & Bastress, PLLC, we have an unwavering commitment to many things, some of which are giving back to the Charleston community, especially our younger generations and education, and supporting what we see as worthy legal causes. Our law firm recently put its support behind an initiative, the 2023 Spirit of the Mountains Youth Leadership Association’s (YLA) Service Award, that allowed us to demonstrate our support for both.

At our law firm DiPiero Simmons McGinley & Bastress, PLLC, we firmly believe in supporting our community. One of the ways in which we do that is by sponsoring sporting events that encourage Charleston residents to remain physically active, as doing so has been proven to be important for improving a person’s mental and physical wellbeing.

Keeping with our commitment to do our part to support our fellow Charleston residents, our legal team recently sponsored two different United States Tennis Association (USTA) events, including the HospiceCare Tennis Tournament and the Marshall Alumni & Friends Tennis Tournament. Tennis holds a particularly fond place in the heart of firm partner Lonnie C. Simmons as he formerly served as captain on several USTA tennis teams himself during a 15-year period.

At DiPiero Simmons McGinley & Bastress, PLLC, we believe in participating in and attending local Charleston community events as often as we can. Communities hold power, and so do its people. This power can be used to lift others up who are in need of legal aid, necessities like food or shelter, or even the need to feel like they belong and that they are able to feel at ease. This weekend we are sponsoring the Hospice Tennis Tournament at the Charleston Tennis Center. HospiceCare offers quality hospice and palliative care, and grief and loss programs. Their work is centered around helping our patients live comfortable and with dignity. Sponsoring the tennis tournament helps them hold an event to spread awareness and information about their services.
